I too enjoyed this variation - The Event cards do seem to influence the game too much, especially when you 'do the right thing' and it still costs you. All in all though, a solid and fun game.

I really liked this take on Catan. My only issue with it, and what prevents it from being rated higher, is the almost game-changing randomness to the Event cards. The right Event card early in the game could seemingly make the entire game a play for second...
